  Youth & The Media
In collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, and Harris Interactive, we are conducting a 2-year longitudinal survey on the Internet among adolescents between the ages of 10 and 15 years. We are investigating the long-term behavioral effects of exposure to violence on new medias, including the Internet and video games.

Internet victimization and other pediatric Internet health issues
Dr. Ybarra is an expert in the field of Internet victimization, with publications in cyberbullying, sexual solicitation, and related mental health and social characteristics of children. ISK is partnering with Dr. David Finkelhor and his colleagues at the University of New Hampshire Crimes Against Children Research Center (http://www.unh.edu/ccrc/) to examine current issues in cyberbullying, blocking software, and more.

Upcoming Projects Partners

Internet-based adolescent HIV / AIDS prevention in Uganda Along with colleagues at the University of California at San Francisco, we are exploring uses of Internet technologies, including animation and online chat, to promote HIV risk behavior change among adolescents living in Uganda.

Bullying on the Internet is a serious adolescent health issue and is associated with significant personal challenge for some children who are targeted. ISK is in the process of developing a web site tailored to adolescents who are targets of cyberbullying. Information will include referrals, Internet safety tips, and talkback.
